What’s in your skincare
- Synthetic chemicals are everywhere. What few people realise is that the skincare products we use on daily basis are packed full of synthetic chemicals that are not only unnecessary but are potentially harmful.
- Common synthetic chemicals in skincare include:
- 1. Artificial fragrance and colour( eg C.I 19140 or FD&C numbers.
- 2. Harmful preservative (any paraben ingredients or formaldehyde (contributing ) compounds eg. DMDM hydantoin, Urea imidazolidinyl, etc.
- 3. Petrochemicals- Active research is being conducted to study the links between petrochemicals in cosmetics and cancer. Eg. mineral oil (petrolatum, liquidum, paraffinum, paraffin oil/wax and propylene glycol.
- 4. Harsh detergents (such as Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Ammonium laureth Sulphate.
- 5. Animal cruelty – animal testing is cruel and unnecessary if there are no reasons to believe that the products are toxic in the first place.
